Research in Sand Creek

Research In Sand Creek

Several years of research and cooperation between tribes, state and federal agencies, universities, and affected landowners contributed to the establishment of the Sand Creek Massacre site as a National Park Service (NPS) unit in 2007. Research continues to be conducted at the site. Scientists are allowed to conduct research in Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site with a research permit. The park is responsible for issuing and tracking research permits and providing support to researchers in the park. Applications are reviewed and approved under a formal, standard process. Research in Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site covers a wide range of subjects including archaeology, geology, soil, fish, birds, plants, and water. To apply for a research permit, visit the NPS Permit and Reporting System website. A list of research needs can also be found on the Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit website.
